At Doxtor, we specialize in providing comprehensive women’s health services that address the unique needs of women throughout their lives. Dr. Nikki Ramskill from the Female Health Doctor, leads our women’s department and is an expert in women’s health, and offers several clinics for women of all ages.
Dr Nikki sees all women’s health conditions and also offers specific clinics for women with the following conditions.
Women can begin getting perimenopause symptoms at any time, but traditionally, from over the age of 40. This may include brain fog, forgetfulness, word-finding difficulties, general body aches and pains, low libido, vaginal dryness, recurrent urinary tract infections and hot flushes or night sweats. Management of this will start with a discussion about your periods and general health followed by lifestyle advice and possible initiation of HRT or other alternative non-hormonal therapies to help your symptoms.
PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a syndrome of symptoms and signs that cause irregular or absent periods and/or subfertility, weight gain and diabetes. Management of this will start with a discussion about your periods and general health with a discussion about possible options such as a referral to a fertility specialist or start contraception for period regulation. As part of initial investigations to make the diagnosis you’ll be referred for a pelvic ultrasound scan and some women’s health blood tests.
The cause of endometriosis is still debated, but essentially, tissue that is similar to the lining of the womb is found outside the womb. It could be in the abdominal cavity, stuck on bowel or bladder, or even end up in the lungs or brain. This debilitating condition causes painful periods and can make intercourse painful. It can also lead to infertility if not managed so needs to be diagnosed as soon as possible. Management of this will start with a discussion about your periods and general health with a discussion about possible options such as a referral to an endometriosis specialist surgeon, a fertility specialist or start contraception. As part of initial investigations you’ll be referred for a pelvic MRI scan and some women’s health blood tests.
Trying to get pregnant can be an exciting time, but it can also be extremely stressful and all consuming if it is taking a long time to happen. No matter how long you’ve been trying, or just want to know if all is well before you do, this appointment is designed to help you with finding out. Management of this will start with a discussion about your periods and general health followed by referral for a pelvic ultrasound scan and blood tests to look at your fertility. After this, depending on what is found, referral on to a fertility specialist can be arranged.
Not every woman wants to have children, and even when she does, she doesn’t necessarily want them to come all at once! Contraception can feel complicated and overwhelming though, making it hard to decide what to do. This appointment is designed around helping you to pick the contraception option that is right for you, or to discuss about switching or stopping contraception. Further tests can be offered if in the history there is a need for investigation of symptoms you may be having that can’t be linked to using contraception.
A regular period is a sign of a healthy body. Sometimes this doesn’t quite follow the pattern we expect and can become heavier, lighter, painful or irregular. If your period isn’t quite fitting, or you’re worried about it in some way, this appointment is where you can be heard. Management of this will start with a discussion about your periods and general health followed by initial investigations to make a diagnosis such as a pelvic ultrasound scan and women’s health blood tests.
Menopause can happen earlier than expected in life. POI is diagnosed as menopause below the age of 40. There are multiple possible causes. Management of this condition will start with a discussion about your periods and general health followed by an ultrasound of your pelvic organs and a blood test which looks at whether you have the condition, and possible causes. After this, you could be referred for a fertility assessment, start HRT and/or be referred to speak to a geneticist or endocrinologist depending on what is found during your initial investigations.
Sometimes we just want to know if everything is ok. This assessment involves a top to toe assessment of your body from your bowel and cholesterol levels to your ovarian function and cervix health. Women over 50 will also have an additional blood test for ovarian cancer.
All our women's health clinics are run by female doctors.
Your Doxtor is designed to complement not replace your NHS GP. You will still need regular cervical smears, mammograms and vaccines from your NHS GP.
